Body Type Guide: Clothes & dresses for the A-figure at Mondo Kaos

The A-figure is characterized by feminine curves underneath the body.

This type includes narrow shoulders, a slender upper body with a narrow waist, a round bottom and slightly thicker, feminine thighs. In relation to your measurements, you are wider across your hips than your shoulders. Your absolute strength is your narrow, feminine waist. Most women dream of this advantage, so highlight it at every opportunity.

Do you want to even out the ratio between your hips and shoulders and maybe elongate your legs? This is how you can focus on your slim and beautiful upper body.

Then highlight your upper body and use our tips to make your upper body more in balance with your hips.

Use bright colors and prints to accentuate your upper body and more muted/similar colors on your lower body. Wear tops and dresses with puff sleeves to give you a little more width in the shoulders.

Tops for the A-Figure

You need to create volume on your upper body, and you can do this with tops and shirts with puff sleeves that make your shoulders look broader. You can use looser tops and shirts as long as they are fitted at the waist or tucked into pants/skirts that are cut at the waist. For example. the Estelle shirt is great for the A-Figure. Use bright colors and prints to accentuate your upper body, and more subdued/similar colors on the lower body.

Boat-neck tops and off-shoulder blouses that give the illusion of broader shoulders, giving the appearance of an hourglass figure, are also great for the A-Figure. For example, the Estelle shirt with its puff sleeves and slouchy neckline is great for the A-Figure. Feel free to use bright colors and prints to accentuate your upper body, and more subdued/similar colors on the lower body. An A-line skirt or mini skirt that flares out slightly is great for the A-Figure. Or wide-leg pants like our Sailor pants or Swing pants, both of which beautifully flatter the hips.

Pants and jeans for the A-Figure

Go for high-waisted pants. They reach all the way up over your hips and buttocks and hug your body.
Straight-leg pants are super flattering as the wide legs make your hips look narrower, creating the illusion that the bottom of your legs are the same width as your hips.
You should definitely avoid low-waisted pants as they will cut in the wrong place for your figure.

Skirts for the A-Figure

Skirts and dresses are generally most flattering for the A-figure.

Go for "smooth" skirts such as A-line cuts that don't add extra fullness around the hips. Avoid pleats.

Dresses for the A-Figure

Combine the best of the top with the best of the bottom.

A classic A-line dress like our Ava Dress from The House Of Foxy is great as it focuses on the waist, while the puff sleeves give you a little extra width on the shoulders. At the same time, the A-line shape is perfect for not making your hips/thighs look bigger than they are.

In general, you should look for a dress that makes your shoulders look bigger, while the bottom of your dress should have width (but not pleats) to camouflage your hips.

For the A-Figure, a defined waist is great as it will help emphasize the narrowest part of your body.
