Vintage-style A-line dresses

At Mondo Kaos, we have a very large selection of vintage-style and retro dresses, so to make it easier for you to find exactly what you're looking for, we have divided our vintage-style dresses into categories.

Here you'll find dresses in many different designs inspired by different eras, all of which have one thing in common: they are made in the so-called A-line shape.

The A-line refers to the shape of the skirt, or lower part of the dress, from the waist down. The A-line dresses at Mondo Kaos are, of course, fitted at the waist, like all our clothes that accentuate the feminine figure.

A-line dresses are therefore a great choice for almost all body types, as they are fitted at the waist and gradually flare out into an A-shape, with varying lengths.
An A-line dress can be a simple, classic dress, a shirt dress or a wrap dress. If you are specifically looking for a shirt dress or a wrap dress, you may also want to browse these categories.

Beautiful vintage-style A-line dresses for everyday wear and special occasions

At Mondo Kaos, you'll find beautiful vintage-style A-line dresses for both everyday wear and special occasions, in a wide range of colours, prints and designs.

You might think an A-line dress doesn't have quite the same glamorous flair as a swing or pencil dress, but in fact, the A-line dress is versatile and can be very elegant.

Many of our A-line dresses are based on original patterns from the late 1930s and 1940s, and capture all the feminine elegance and flow of that era. Some of our most flattering and popular styles belong to this category. For example, take a look at the ever-popular Ava dress.

The A-line dress's refined cut and soft drape can give this style of dress true Hollywood glamour. These dresses are also often where you'll find lovely little details such as puff sleeves, fine stitching or draping, as the shape lends itself to just this kind of look.

An A-line dress is a must-have in every vintage lover's wardrobe, as it can be styled for anything from everyday wear to a special occasion in an instant.

All our dresses come from our carefully selected vintage-style brands, all of which make clothes from high-quality materials and with a love for authentic vintage style. We've put together a varied selection to ensure you can find an A-line dress that's perfect for you and your needs.

Our webshop features lots of lovely photos and descriptions of all our dresses. However, we know that seeing a dress in person is always different from seeing it in a picture.

So if you'd like to see and try on our beautiful vintage and retro dresses in person, you're very welcome to visit our physical store at Birkegade 1 in Nørrebro, Copenhagen.

At the store, you'll find our passionate, helpful and knowledgeable staff, who are always happy to advise you and help you find the A-line dress that's just right for you.

Why do we call our dresses "Vintage" and "Retro"?

As you may have noticed, we use both the terms 'vintage' and 'retro' to describe our dresses, but is there actually a difference between a vintage and a retro dress?

There is, in fact, a difference, although there is no clear definition, so we'll try to offer our own here.

Vintage refers to clothing made from around 1920 to 1980. It may be homemade or produced in small or large quantities. Since our dresses weren't made during this period, we describe them as "vintage-inspired", because that's exactly what they are. They are inspired by the fashions of the decades of 1940, 1950 and 1960 but made today.

The term retro emerged in the 1960s and refers to something from "the old days"—and since our dresses are inspired by the fashions of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, we also describe them as retro dresses.

The term "repro" is actually probably the most accurate way to describe our dresses, as repro comes from "reproduced"—that is, dresses that have been made again.

However, not many of our customers use the term repro. Instead, they describe our dresses as "retro dresses" or "vintage dresses", so we've chosen to do the same.

Looking for more than just a dress?

A retro dress can easily be paired with modern-looking shoes. In fact, the contrast between the dress's timeless vintage style and a brand-new pair of modern shoes or heels can create a beautiful, exciting and interesting look.

It's also lovely to embrace retro style from head to toe. If that's your plan, you'll find every kind of retro clothing here.
