Here at home, we have already felt the rush of summer for a few selected days. The temperature crept cautiously above 20 degrees and we can feel how we are getting lighter, as if the heavy winter coat, which can now be packed away, weighed heavier in more ways than one. We can once again sit outside and drink iced coffee or meet some friends for a glass of wine, and in just a little while it will be time for summer dresses.
Of course, we get lots of beautiful summer dresses in the store, but first let's look at some of the beautiful summer dresses through time, and see what our wonderful vintage brands have been inspired by.
Vintage summer dresses from the 1940s
Most summer dresses from the 1940s have the beautiful A-shape. They are immediately a little less flashy than the summer dress of the 1950s , but they also arose in a time when practicality was paramount. As the war approached, women's roles changed and dresses went from being ultra feminine to being more practical. The dresses were shortened to the knee to save on the fabric and the dresses of the 1940s were easier to work in.

Both perfect as a symbol of everything a dress should be in the 1940s; feminine, simple, practical and above all versatile.
