Vintage style wedding dresses in Mondo Kaos

In this blog post, we talk about:

♥ our selection of vintage wedding dresses inspired by the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s

♥ vintage bridal styling

♥ how the bride-to-be can have the best experience when trying on wedding dresses at Mondo Kaos

Our selection of vintage-inspired wedding dresses from five different brands:

Daisy Dapper - Romantic vintage-style lace wedding dress with a classic 1950s look

This beautiful wedding dress from Daisy Dapper is a stunning, hand-sewn dress with a full overlay of romantic floral lace. It is a classic, waist-fitted swing dress with a strapless sweetheart neckline, supported instead by the beautiful lace that covers your décolletage while still subtly drawing attention to it. The waist is truly the focus of this gorgeous dress, and if you want to accentuate it even more, you can wear the dress with a petticoat underneath to add extra fullness to the skirt!

House of Foxy - Romantic 1940s bride or late 1950s look à la Brigitte Bardot

We have three vintage wedding dresses from House of Foxy in total – a darling 1940s dress with an A-line skirt and an elegant late-1950s dress with a lace bodice, available in both pencil and swing skirt styles!

House of Foxy made the darling 1940s tea dress in pure white exclusively for Mondo Kaos, and we think it's perfect for the romantic vintage bride! The dress is cut just below the bust for a beautiful drape in its period-style A-line skirt. It has pretty, classic puff sleeves with piping, and the most beautiful draping across the shoulders and bust, creating an authentic 1940s bridal look. The other style from House of Foxy was inspired by the wedding dress Brigitte Bardot wore in the 1959 film 'Come Dance with Me', as seen in the darling lace overlay on the bodice, which covers the décolletage and shoulders with a very high neckline and continues into an elegant full-length sleeve. The dress has a wide waistband that really accentuates your figure, whether you prefer the classic 1950s swing skirt, which looks great with a petticoat underneath for extra volume, or a simple, close-fitting pencil skirt that heralded the more minimalist bridal looks of the 1960s.

Pretty Dress Company - 1950s bridal silhouette with a modern, clean finish

From Pretty Dress Company, we have selected three different styles from our vintage wedding dresses: a swing dress with a wrap-effect bodice and swing skirt, the same style in a fitted pencil cut, and a swing dress with 3/4 sleeves. All three styles have very simple, clean designs, creating an elegant 1950s look that really turns heads.

The beautiful swing dress has a classic fitted-waist cut and a lovely wrap-effect neckline, along with small sleeves that just cover the tops of the arms and shoulders.

The pencil dress has the same beautiful bodice, which accentuates the waist and creates a lovely hourglass silhouette. The first two dresses are also available in white with either yellow or pink roses to break up the classic white look.

The 3/4-sleeve swing dress is fitted at the waist and has an elegant, lightly pleated swing skirt that accentuates the waist, while the pointed sweetheart neckline beautifully frames the décolletage and neck and draws attention to the waist.

We recommend wearing the swing styles with a petticoat underneath for extra volume, further accentuating the hourglass figure.

Stop Staring – classic swing wedding dress or sexy wiggle?

Two of Mondo Kaos' absolute bestseller dresses are, of course, also available in a beautiful white shade, and both are perfect for the vintage bride!

The figure-hugging, sexy "Billion Dollar" wiggle dress is for the bombshell bride who really wants to show off her curves! The dress has a wrap detail at the bust that flatters all bust sizes, light ruching at the waist to conceal any lines, and a pretty little puff sleeve with elastic that suits every arm.

The "Mad Men" swing dress is a very elegant, waist-seamed dress with a simple swing skirt attached to a fitted bodice featuring beautiful crossed pleats over the bust. The dress has a small, angled sleeve which, together with the crossed pleats, helps accentuate the waist and create the classic hourglass silhouette. To accentuate the waist even more, wear the dress with a petticoat underneath!

The dress's cut and draped V-neckline draw attention to the bust and waist, creating the classic 1950s hourglass silhouette. The simple cut suits all body types, and the deep ivory shade complements every skin tone!

Vintage hair and makeup for the bride?

There are many different options when it comes to styling a vintage bride's hair and makeup – in the 1940s, 'Hollywood waves' and "victory rolls" were popular; in the 1950s, sexy Marilyn Monroe curls were in, and in the 1960s, the beautiful, voluminous "beehive" made its entrance, taking hair fashion to new heights!

Makeup in these three decades first focused on matte skin, dark lips, and eyes with liner and mascara only on the upper lash line and lashes in the 1940s. Then fashion shifted to 'the winged eyeliner' (still without liner and mascara on the lower lash line!) and matching red lips and nails, before going all in on the eyes in the 1960s, with liner and mascara on both the upper and lower lash lines – while the lips were understated and neutral.

Trying on vintage wedding dresses at Mondo Kaos – Monday to Thursday

If you're interested in trying on a vintage wedding dress at Mondo Kaos, we recommend visiting us Monday to Thursday for the best experience and service! We're a small shop with limited space, and on our busiest days – Friday and Saturday – we simply don't have the space or time to give the bride-to-be the attention and service she deserves. To make absolutely sure you have the perfect wedding dress fitting experience at Mondo Kaos, you can email us so we can arrange a specific date for you!

Three quick tips to prepare for your vintage wedding dress fitting at Mondo Kaos:

♥ Wear suitable lingerie: a bra you know fits you and, if you like, a pair of high-waisted briefs to help 'smooth' your silhouette

♥ If you've already found your shoes, bring them along to your fitting

♥ Bring your closest friends or a family member (a gentle reminder that we're a very small shop with limited space, so it can get a bit crowded if you bring the whole family :-) )

We look forward to seeing you, Team Mondo Kaos ❤️
