1940s style swing jacket in navy from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury.

A-line swing jacket in a simple and elegant vintage look.

The beautiful coat is based on an original 1940s design. It has a fine collar at the top and the jacket is buttoned up at the neck with three large buttons, which fits beautifully into the coat's clean lines and period design.

The sleeves are wide and end in a classic turn-up. The small shoulder pads make the coat sit nicely over the shoulders and give the coat a real 40s look. The coat has a vintage-style A-line that falls beautifully and elegantly around the body.

Naturally, the Swing coat has large slanted pockets on the side.

The coat is made of 100% new wool and it is lined in satin.

  • An extremely elegant 1940s style jacket
  • Super versatile navy coat that fits your entire vintage style wardrobe.
  • Style with accessories, beret and gloves in a nice contrasting color, such as red or off-white.

Questions about fit, styling and silhouette

Are you unsure about size, body shape or how to style your vintage-inspired jacket or coat? Here we have gathered the most important answers about fit, silhouette and vintage-inspired coats and jackets, so you can more easily find the style that suits you best.

What is a vintage-inspired jacket?

A vintage-inspired jacket is a newly produced jacket with cuts and details inspired by historical fashion. At Mondo Kaos, many of our jackets reference especially the 1940s and 1950s, with defined waists, structured shoulders, swing cuts and cropped jacket styles.

Are Mondo Kaos jackets true vintage?

No. Our jackets and coats are newly produced and vintage-inspired. This means you get the vintage look combined with modern sizing, materials and comfort.

Which jackets were fashionable in the 1940s?

Jackets in the 1940s were often structured and practical, with defined shoulders, a marked waist and relatively simple details. Tailored wool jackets, cropped jackets and military-inspired cuts were characteristic of the decade.

Which coats were fashionable in the 1950s?

Coats from the 1950s often had more volume, softer shoulders and a focus on the waist. Swing coats and coats with princess seams were popular because they worked beautifully over full skirts and dresses.

Which jacket works with a vintage-inspired dress?

A cropped bolero or tailored jacket works well with most vintage-inspired dresses because it keeps the waist visible. For dresses with a full skirt, a swing coat is also a beautiful choice.

How should a vintage-inspired blazer fit?

A vintage-inspired blazer should fit well across the shoulders and ideally define the waist. It can be tailored, but it should not feel tight or pull across the buttons.

Can you wear vintage-inspired jackets with modern clothing?

Yes. Vintage-inspired jackets work really well in a modern wardrobe. Try a tailored blazer with jeans and a T-shirt, or a cropped jacket with high-waisted trousers for a more subtle retro look.
