This customer portrait is part of a series of mini-blogs where we have interviewed some of our lovely
#mondoladies, based on their use of #mondolady and #mondokaos on Instagram <3
This portrait is of the lovely Luise, who works at Copenhagen Airport and loves colorful
swing dresses and feminine retro fashion!
Luise is 42 years old, lives in Allerød and is the mother of a 12-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. Luise works in
Copenhagen Airport Security and has a great love for 50s fashion, style and music.
Interest in 50s fashion.
Luise's interest in the swinging universe of the 50s started when she was a child, when she loved
the music and especially the dresses with the strut skirts. She remembers that in piano lessons she much
preferred jive and rock'n'roll to classical, and that after a lot of asking, she finally - albeit
reluctantly - got her teacher to find sheet music for the classics 'Great Balls of Fire' and 'Rock around
the Clock' so she could learn them. Luise also told us that she practically begged her mother to
make her a dress with a strut skirt, but it wasn't exactly the kind of dress that was in fashion in the
early 80s, so her mother never made her the dress with the strut skirt, and young Luise had to settle
for dreaming about it.
From soldier to 50s girl.
Although Luise has always been fond of music and the whole 50s universe, with the exception of
gender roles, she notes, it wasn't until a few years ago that this interest began to
manifest itself in her personal style and wardrobe. During the interview, she explained that for many years
she cultivated her masculine side and a more masculine look because uniforms have been a big part of
her everyday life and identity. Luise originally trained as a soldier and was employed in the
armed forces, and afterwards she trained as a carpenter - two fields of work, each with their own
type of uniform.
Since then, Luise has also trained as an educator, and it was while working as just that, back
in 2011-12, that she got to know Mondo Kaos. Luise clearly remembers her first visit to the store. She
worked at Griffenfeldsgade/Korsgade, and one day she had an early day off and decided to go
for a walk in the area to get to know it better. Suddenly, she saw a bright red dress with a strut skirt in
a window - just the kind of dress she had been dreaming of since she was little, and she just had to go in and
try it on! The dress fit perfectly and was Luise's first purchase in Mondo Kaos, and for the
occasion of the interview, Luise wore the same dress, the beautiful Mad Men Swing dress from Stop
Staring! Luise loves it because of the swing skirt and the stretchy material - and of course also
the bright red color that still holds up after almost eight years of use. She also wore her best store-bought
piece, the beautiful Ice Skater Cardigan from Emmy Design, and with her beautiful makeup and
hairstyle, she looked great!
Vintage makeup & Victory Rolls.
After her first visit and purchase in the store, Luise got more and more courage to express her passion for the retro universe
in her style. She started researching the different style trends, makeup
and hair, and watched tutorials from Cherry Doll Face and Miss Victory Violet, and through their and
other people's YouTube tutorials, she quickly learned how to do hair and makeup like they did in the 40s and 50s
- and of course she was there when Mondo Kaos was visited by Miss Victory Violet for the Hair
Styling event! Today, Luise is very skilled at styling her hair in classic hairstyles, and she is particularly fond
of the hairstyle called 'Victory Rolls', which is especially known from 1940s wartime pinups.
Luise's favorite type of dress is definitely a dress with a swing skirt, so there is room for play and dancing. Luise
has a classic hourglass figure, so it's important to her that her clothes cut at the waist so that
her curves are beautifully emphasized. It's also important to Luise that the
fabric has stretch, so she knows that her clothes will always fit perfectly, whether she loses a little weight or gains a little
weight.
When we were taking pictures of Luise, she told us that she was currently looking for a more
subdued dress that she could wear everyday, so she chose the beautiful lapel dress from
Very Cherry in both black and teal and matched them with black dance shoes from Miss L'Fire!
Luise's first visit to Mondo Kaos was simply the start of her total embrace of the
feminine retro look women had in the 40s and 50s - however, she emphasized that it's only
the style she loves, not the gender roles!
Since Luise started exploring the retro universe in her own wardrobe and personal expression, she
has learned a lot about the style, and now that she works at the airport she wears a uniform again, and she
loves to play with the feminine expression in the framework she has - therefore Luise's makeup and hair
are always perfect in true retro spirit when she is at work - we can't wait to fly again so we
can be security checked by this amazing, cool and very beautiful woman!
Thank you so much for letting us interview you, Luise! We can't wait to see you again!
