Coats and jackets inspired by the style of the 1940s
In the early forties there were restrictions/rationing on fabric, and the coats were therefore typically without too much width and without extra fabric. That is typically no hoods, decorative pockets, preferably single-breasted buttons, and slim sleeves.
Coats and jackets were therefore generally slimmer in cut.
Trenchcoat: Known from the 40s is the famous Trenchcoat. A trench coat is a coat with lapels, with one or two rows of buttons down the front, and then it marks the waist with a belt.
Military look: Another typical silhouette from the 40s is a coat inspired by the military look. The coat has a straighter cut with length to the knees, single row of buttons and some shoulder pads for a more rigorous shape.
The sports jacket: the short-waisted jacket was a sporty jacket for women. It was good for great freedom of movement, and was popular among others. in the first female pilots. Our Americana jacket from the House of Foxy is inspired by these models.
The coats from this time were typically completely without additional decorations, and preferably in earth or army colours.

Vintage jackets and coats - inspired by the style of the 1950s
In the late forties , when the fabric became available again, and there was a desire to celebrate freedom, jackets and coats began to become more decorated again.
Therefore, in the 1950s you started to see cuts such as the waisted coat, the semi-waisted or the swing jacket. Common to all of these is the large extra width in the cut from the waist down and with wide sleeves. In addition to that, attention was also paid to details such as large buttons, large lapels, large sewn-on pockets and decorations such as fur or contrasting lining. They also went back to using stronger colors such as blue and red for the coats.

The New Look inspired coat
New Look is the American term for the style Christian Dior created in the late 40s , where the focus was on the very narrow waist and wide skirt. With an extra petticoat under the dress, which belonged in the evening, a particularly feminine coat was also needed to wear over the dress or swing skirt. This particularly waisted cut can be seen in this coat, which is also known as a princess coat.
In addition, there could be details such as slits or even pleats at the back to give extra space.
The semi-tailored jacket was the mix of the Dior-inspired jacket and the triangle-shaped swing coat. However, this one still had a belt to focus on the waist
Swing coat: The swing coat was in an A-shape, with plenty of room for the swing skirt or petticoat.
Blazer: The blazer is one of the most popular jackets. It is especially used for a slightly formal look. But originally the jacket comes from the sport of rowing, from the rowers at Oxford and Cambridge universities, where it was a kind of 'hoodie' of the time. From there it crept into social gatherings. The simple jacket was characterized by its lapel, the hidden pockets and the three buttons on the front. In terms of construction, it was anything but simple, and therefore quickly became a status symbol. It was the name of the color for one of these ro-jackets that gave the blazer its name, blazing red!
At Mondo Kaos, we have embraced the feminine blazer. All our beautiful blazers are made in a waist cut with a focus on the feminine details.
At Mondo Kaos, we carry a number of these different jackets and coats depending on the season.
