Mabel 1940s dress
burgundy
Beautiful figure-hugging dress in a simple 1940s vintage cut from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury.
Beautiful dress with a touch of Hollywood from the English brand The Seamstress of Bloomsbury.
The dress has plenty of fine details. It features a V-neckline and small covered decorative buttons down to the waistline, which beautifully accentuates the waist.
The sleeves have a slight gathering that gives it a lovely vintage aesthetic. The short sleeves are finished with a couple of small decorative buttons.
The dress is beautifully tailored and also has a belt that ties at the back. This creates a truly beautiful silhouette along with the lovely bow detail.
The skirt has a sarong effect, which falls beautifully and flatteringly over the hips and thighs. It is a truly wonderful dress.
- Beautiful dress in authentic 1940s style
- Style with fine accessories such as earrings and a hair flower for a festive vintage look.
Size guide:
- The Mabel dress from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury is slightly on the large side.
- Our model Mille is 170 cm tall and wears the dress in size 10/small. In comparison, Christina in the yellow dress is 174 cm tall and wears the dress in size 18/2XL (it is a bit too big for Christina)
100% rayon crepe. No stretch.
Rayon crepe is a natural, lightweight and beautiful material, and we recommend that you care for the garment as they did with original 1940s clothing.
We suggest hand washing, just like they did back then. If you want to use the easier option of using a washing machine, it's very important to wash on a gentle cycle and place the garment in a laundry bag. However, we do not recommend washing in a machine as not all machines treat clothes equally well.
Avoid drying clothes in direct sunlight or in very hot places (e.g. over a radiator) as this can cause the material to expand and subsequently shrink.
If the garment has been washed too hot.
In the unlikely event of an accident, you can try the following method to get the garment back to its original size and fit. This method is not guaranteed, but may help in some cases:
- Soak the garment in cold water with a very generous amount of fabric conditioner and leave it overnight.
- Then rinse the garment in fresh cold water and while gently squeezing out the excess water, stretch the garment both width and lengthwise as far as you can.
- Lay the garment flat on a towel to let it dry slowly and keep pulling it in both directions.

Are you unsure about the size, whether the dress suits your body type, or how to style it? Here, we have gathered some of the questions you might have, so you can more easily find the dress that is perfect for you.
Until a few years ago, vintage clothing was considered to be anything from 1920-1979. But in many contexts, generations are used as a guideline, as a generation is approximately 25 years. This aligns well with the current fashion landscape, where many millennials have started embracing the 90s as 'vintage'. Younger than that, and it's referred to as upcycled or second-hand.
At Mondo Kaos, you'll primarily find vintage-inspired dresses, where the style is inspired by earlier decades, mainly the 1940s and 1950s, but the fit, comfort, and materials are created for modern use. All our vintage dresses are newly manufactured.
Our dresses may be inspired by, for example, the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, or 1960s. This can be seen in details such as silhouette, waist, neckline, skirt shape, print, length, or feminine vintage details.
At Mondo Kaos, you'll primarily find vintage-inspired dresses. This means the dresses have a vintage look, inspired by past decades, but are made with modern comfort, fit, and materials, so they can be worn in everyday life today.
Our vintage dress is particularly well-suited for those who desire a feminine silhouette with an emphasis on the waist. Depending on the cut, the dress can be especially flattering for certain specific body types.
Yes, many vintage-inspired dresses can be styled for both everyday wear and special occasions. Wear the dress with a cardigan, tights, and flat shoes for everyday use, or style it with heels, jewelry, and vintage-inspired makeup for parties, weddings, or special occasions.
Use the size guide on the product page and compare your measurements with the dress's measurements. If you are between two sizes, you can often choose the smaller size for a more fitted look or the larger size for a more relaxed drape.
